Hello, Question about my future spouse status: I got the green card recently (yay!). My girlfriend (we are both from Europe) has one year left on her J-1 Visa. If we get married tomorrow, I understand the she can apply for the green card as F2A (current date is March 2013 so it would take a while for her to get it...). Questions: 1- if we get married and she applies for the green card before her visa expires, can she stay in the US? under which status? could she work? 2- if we get married and she applies for the green card after her visa expires (and let's say she is back in Europe), can she come back and stay in the US? under which status? could she work? 3- if we get married and she does not apply for the green card and her visa expires, can she stay in the US? under which status? can she work? Thank you for the tips!

Today, I have received the following USCIS notification by email: [i]Your Case Status: Card/ Document Production. On April 8, 2014, we ordered production of your new card. Please allow 30 days for your card to be mailed to you. If we need something from you we will contact you.[/i] [lol] [lol] [lol] But 2 hours later, I have received another notification from USCIS: [i]On April 8, 2014, we mailed you a notice that we had registered this customer's new permanent resident status. Please follow any instructions on the notice. Your new permanent resident card should be mailed within 60 days following this registration or after you complete any ADIT processing referred to in the welcome notice, whichever is later.[/i] [confused] [confused] [confused] So... Did I get it or not? I am confused now... The tracker was showing 'Card Production' (straight from 'Acceptance' status) but now shows 'Decision' status. Why??

I just checked my USCIS application dashboard for my I485 filing. It says: "Effective as of: January 31, 2014: Texas Service Center processing time - 5.9 Month(s)"

I filed the I485 on 2/14. I will be out of the country the whole month of June. There are some good chances that the I-485 will be approved while I am out of the country. I have a valid H1B (till 2015) and should have my AP approved by then (not sure I needed it). Is it an issue to have the I-485 approved while out of the country? Or can I just re-enter using my H1b? Thanks!

I filed on 2/14 and got the receipt a week ago. The processing time for Texas is 4.9 months according to the website. For people who files in October (when it was a 4 months processing), don't forget to account for the holidays (Xmas) and weather delays (shut down of some offices, even though that may not apply to Texas). Anyways, I hope to get it by July :-)

I have been with the same (consulting) company for 6 years and currently filing the last step (i-485). Assuming all goes well and I get the card sometime by this summer, can I change job right away? I read that usually it is recommended to stay 6 more months at the current employer. But I got some attractive job offers. I know I can technically change company, but what can happen if I do it? I know my current company would not report me to the USCIS. So what kind of trouble can I get and when? Once I file for citizenship? When I renew my GC in 10 years? If I get audited? What can be the consequences? Lose the Green Card? Or provide explanations of why I quit my employer?

Thank you Catx. One last question (I swear): based on the Yelp reviews, the USCIS location for FP closest to my address seems to accept early walk-in. Is there a benefit to go earlier and have it done ASAP, or the FP step is not a bottleneck for the overall I-485 processing time (and going there early would not impact the approval date)?

Thank you for the reply. Do they always select a weekday, or can it also be on Saturday? How do they decide on the location? The closest office to the applicant's address?

Hello, My PD has been current since Jan 2014 but my lawyer has been VERY slow and is only about to file my I-485 application. My job makes me travel pretty much every week, to different location. I emailed my lawyer but she has not gotten back to me yet, so here is my question: can we choose the FP appointment time and location? I know where I will be in the next 4 weeks, but won't be home (except on weekends). Does USCIS assign you a time and location for the FP, or you can choose those? What if you cannot make the appointment or time given to you? I don't want to create delays and want to be proactive and plan ahead. Thank you for the precious information! Almost there.... [lol]
