By the way, did you ever get any notification from USCIS saying "your name was updated relating to your I130". There's no other change in the status on their website.
Vijay posted on 9/30/2013 9:06:20 AM
No. I just got a HARD LUD and got an SMS on Sep 27th at 7:45pm PST asking me to check my case status online since its been updated.

I think you have passed one major hurdle and a long wait that most people go through.
Are you going to go through consular processing or I485 for the next step of the process?
Vijay posted on 9/30/2013 3:39:13 PM
Wife in India so have to go through CP.
HR posted on 10/1/2013 7:31:00 AM
Looks like we'll be starting to work on our next steps too. Got I130 approved yesterday. The notification came last night and the website showed the progress! Since the govt shutdown, wonder how much impact it will have for the progress.

Just curious - have you found out how long will it take to hear back from NVC once I-130 approval letter is received? Are you still waiting to hear back from NVC yet?
Vijay posted on 10/7/2013 9:38:32 AM
Yeah. NVC told me to wait 8 weeks. I am going to wait another week and see if i could talk to a L2 officer at USCIS.

Vijay posted on 10/26/2013 7:13:36 AM
Do you have the NVC case number and Invoice Id number? You need these two to log in to
https://ceac.state.gov/IV/Login.aspx

If your case was fully uploaded, you should be able to see DS261.

What is your service center ? Keep calling NVC everyday. May be try calling USCIS next week and speak to a Tier 2 Rep and ask them about your case.
A2601 posted on 10/26/2013 9:25:54 PM
is that necessary that we call them every day.?or they will respond automatically after they recieve the case?
Vijay posted on 10/26/2013 9:27:05 PM
It is better to call everyday if you want a head start after you get your case number.
A2601 posted on 10/26/2013 10:47:36 PM
Ok thanks.. Anyway they are telling 4-8 months for my case to reach NVC.So i will call them after 2weeks.
When i call tem what should i ask? Can u guide me with that?

i am sorry,if i am bothering u.
sayamatun posted on 10/27/2013 7:50:02 AM
my case was at vermont service centre bt they transfered it to nabraska & i got approved letter from their.is the nvc processing depends on service centre?
Vijay posted on 10/27/2013 8:04:25 AM
No worries. CSC is approving I-130 pretty fast but taking their sweet time to send the approved petition to NVC. In my case it took about 3 weeks for petition to reach NVC. If 4 weeks have passed since your I-130 was approved then call USCIS and talk to a tier 2 rep and ask them for the exact date your case left the service center. Tell them its been 4 weeks and according to the petition you have waited for a month.

You will need PCC when you send the documents to NVC so keeping it ready would be good.
sayamatun posted on 11/4/2013 7:54:24 AM
Today i call nvc & they tell me that they receive my case but it takes 10 to 12 days to put it their computer system.do i have to wait 12 more days to get my case number.
HR posted on 11/7/2013 4:02:02 PM
Vijay, just checked your case status. Are you just waiting for your spouse to get interviewed at the consulate?
Vijay posted on 11/7/2013 5:04:27 PM
No. Waiting for "Case complete Notification" from NVC and expecting that to happen around Dec 5th-7th. If PD is current for our case (based on Dec VB, NVC will schedule the interview at the consulate by middle of Jan, 2014.
A2601 posted on 11/8/2013 1:34:39 AM
How can u tell the exact dates?my petition shipped to NVC on oct 29.
when will i get approval?what u think?
Vijay posted on 11/8/2013 7:40:33 AM
Approval? Where did it ship from? Its taking about 4 weeks for apporved I130 from CSC to reach NVC. Add another week for getting the case number, IIN and then few days for AOS and IV invoice to show up online and then another few days to show up as PAID once you have paid the fees. So once you get your case number, it would take two weeks to send all the docs and get the process going. Then it would take about 2-4 weeks for NVC to review your docs. 6 weeks from the time you get your case number is the time i am giving for NVC to issue a case complete provided you pay the fees and submit the docs on time.
A2601 posted on 11/8/2013 8:09:42 AM
I mean approval from NVC.my petition shipped from VSC to NVC..
No case number and IVN yet.
Vijay posted on 11/8/2013 10:24:07 AM
NVC just does a case complete and forwards the docs to the consulate not really any approval per se. It is taking about 3-4 days or a week to get the case number after your petition reaches NVC. Keep calling NVC/DOS.

NVC says it's review time is about 2-4 weeks. so lets see.
A2601 posted on 11/10/2013 11:19:10 PM
Thank you..but,as we can see in the tracker so many cases are pending even after 2-4 weeks.
Vijay posted on 11/11/2013 1:27:09 AM
That could be because of checklist issued by NVC that the tracker does not say. If your documents are clean it shouldn't take more than 4 weeks.
A2601 posted on 11/16/2013 10:22:01 AM
did u receive packet 3?
Vijay posted on 11/16/2013 8:48:29 PM
There is nothing called Packet 3 anymore. If you are referring to AOS, IV civil docs that need to be sent to NVC then yes that has been done. Waiting for Case complete from NVC and interview to be scheduled which i am expecting around first week of December for NVC to come back and say case is complete without any checklist.
A2601 posted on 11/17/2013 4:20:38 AM
Thanks:)our USCIS case status shows that 'On October 29, 2013, we shipped this approved or re-affirmed case to the Department of State for visa processing. For more information, please contact them directly.'
Is DOS is same as NVC?
Vijay posted on 11/17/2013 9:15:27 AM
Yeah. High time you call NVC and start asking them for your case number.
A2601 posted on 11/17/2013 9:24:07 AM
Yup. I am calling them daily. But bit confused about their processing time.
Thanks for immediate replies :)
Vijay posted on 11/17/2013 9:37:33 AM
Keep calling them. It is taking them about one week to give you the case number after it reaches NVC. Then it takes 2 days for AOS invoice email and that to show up online and then another couple of days for IV invoice to show up online. By the time it shows as Paid, two weeks will fly by. Just make sure you have all the docs ready and Ds260 filled on time.

Vijay posted on 11/17/2013 9:56:20 AM
Yes I do. Hired them for my I-130 since i was in India till Sep 8th and did not want to wait to file I-130 after my arrival. That was a wise decision else my PD would have been Sep 10th or 11th and would have been stuck for about 6 months waiting for VB to move.

Even though i have a lawyer i had to be really be on top of them and i updated them with all the status updates on my case. I helped them do most of the work including correcting DS-260 etc and kept docs ready to be sent to NVC. If i had done the NVC all by myself i could have saved a week. They were pretty good in general but used the services of a lawyer just as a shoulder check.
A2601 posted on 11/18/2013 11:17:15 PM
Thanks vijay.did they ask u for police clearance untill now??
Vijay posted on 11/19/2013 12:32:56 AM
Who? NVC? It is part of the documents that need to be sent to NVC. It should be part of the IV civil documents that you will send to NVC.

If your spouse lived only in India from the age of 16, then a Police Clearance certificate from the local passport office is good enough.

Takes couple of days for NVC to send an email to you asking you to pay the AOS and IV fee in their website.

Don't send the doucments unless you have paid the fee and it shows as "PAID" in the online website.

Documents can be sent by either petitioner or applicant as long as all the docs are there.

No. My wife got her PCC from passport office chennai. Here is the link on what you need to bring.

http://passportindia.gov.in/AppOnlineProject/online/pccOnlineApp

I believe she took her passport(need this for sure), Driver's license, PAN card and Adhar card just as a backup. They did not ask her for the interview letter.
Vijay posted on 11/28/2013 12:33:50 PM
After you schedule an appointment on the link above, it took about a week to get an appointment after filling the form online. On that day is when she got the PCC. She got two originals and make sure you ask for atleast two originals. One needs to go NVC and other you will need it at the interview at the embassy.

Is this for F2A?

You have just started the process for NVC. If undr F2A then it will take 2 months to finsih NVc and another 2 months to get an interview date. So 4-5 months total provided you don't get a checklist from NVC and provided your PD is current for F2A.

Vijay posted on 12/12/2013 11:06:36 AM
You are asking questions without giving any info and is extremely difficult to answer. I am assuming you are CR1. Its been two months since NVc recieved your case but you have just paid AOS fee. You have to next pay Iv fee, fill up D260 and send AOS docs and IV docs. After wait 30 business days for review of docs. This itself will take 2 months to finish and then another 1-2 months to get an interview.

Again, it all depends on whether your AOS docs and IV docs that you send to NVC are correct. If they are not correct and if NVC sends you a check list it will delay the process at NVC.

My husband is an LPR since jan2011. But he started working in USA only in may 2013. So last 2 yrs he paid zero tax. Now his income is above poverty line. While filing I864 should he need to get a joint sponsor??
Or his current income is enough to sponsor me?
Vijay posted on 12/16/2013 11:14:43 PM
You have to submit 2012 tax returns and W-2's for 2010, 2011, 2012. I have no idea what would you do if you don't have those for 2010-2012. May be a joint sponsor might help. Not sure.

Sukhi,
Once you get an email to pay IV fee of $230 and after you pay you need to check it online for the status to change as PAID. Once it shows as PAID you can send the IV docs with Original Birth certificate.

Yes. You need to send a Certified Copy or Original Birth Certificate. Notarazied won't do. You will get a checklist if you send a notarized Copy. Did you read the link pasted above?

In about 2-3 days or in a week. Keep checking the online status at https://ceac.state.gov/CTRAC/Invoice/signon.aspx

Dip,
There is some hope for a Feb Interview as well. Most likely you will get through to the March interview slot. Expect a response from NVC around end of Jan with the I/L.

Sukhi,
Bar code sheet should be in the "CEAC" link. Log in and check there. I am not sure about the AOS sponsor question though.

Kritika,
Where are you in the process? Are you just submitting the docs at NVC now or did you get the Interview letter from NVC? UStraveldocs comes in to the picture only after you receive the Interview letter from NVC. You need to give more info about your case for a better answer.
Vijay posted on 1/3/2014 2:26:13 PM
Sukhi,
It does not matter when you became a GC holder. They need W-2 for the past 3 years to see if you have paid taxes and legal in this country. So if you were on H-1 in 2010 thats fine. You should have paid your taxes and got W2 in that year.

Thanks all. Here is our review.

Little background on our case. We both were divorced before after a short marriage and i was
expecting more questions on that and more proof with respect to Bona Fide Relationship. Even though
our marriages were short (1-2 months) it did take 9 months to 3yrs for the final divorce to come
through. We did not know each other then and got introduced to ourselves in Oct 2012, 2-3 yrs after we got our
divorce.

We booked a premier room (with b/F) at the Trident hotel at BKC. I booked it at hotels.com
($450 for 2 days including taxes, expensive but didn't want to travel too much) but found it cheaper on onetravel and travel guru.com for $379 and hotels.com did a price match and gave us a refund. Consulate is right behind Trident
hotel and hardly takes a min to walk to the consulate. Extremely close and cannot get a better
location than this. We started at 6:30AM from our room for our 7:30AM appointment and reached the consulate in a min and were
asked to wait opposite to the consulate. The VFS rep at the front of the consulate told us that at
7AM people will be called to form two lines. We waited and at 7AM, VFS rep comes over asks us to
form a line for "Immigration". Everyone started getting in to a line and it wasn't organized for a
few mins. I stepped in and asked him whether the line was for Immigrant or Non Immigrant visa. He
kept saying "Immigration, Appointment at 7:30AM". Apparently "Immigration" means "Immigrant visa"
and he asked people with 7:45AM appointment to line up separately and that was for "Non immigrant
visa". Wife was 14th person in the line and you get in to the line randomly. This position in the
line before you enter the consulate does not matter at all. It is just to get in to the line and
get inside the consulate. I
was in the line for few mins and i asked the VFS rep whether i can accompany my wife to the
consulate and he said
No. Only people with I/L are allowed. I stepped out of the line and then waited.

THINGS YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE WITH YOU: Make sure you don't carry any keys/car key which have a
remote. Once you enter the consulate you have to go through the security check and if you have any
keys/car remote with a battery they ask you to give it to someone waiting outside. You will be
wasting time. So don't carry any keys/car keys/remote with you and make sure to give it to people
outside before you head in to the consulate.

7:20AM : The moment she went inside after the screening they asked her to sit in the pathway between screening section and interview window section.
They called her inside the room where you have the interview counters and asked my wife whether she has any one accompanying her and what is her choice of language for the interview.
They direct you to a counter where there is an indian woman and she gives you a token number. They asked her to wait. They called her token number after a min and told her to go to a interview counter.

Interview counter where an Indian woman asks some questions:-

IW: Good morning
Wife: Good morning
IW: Who is calling you?
IW: What is your husbands name?
IW: What is your mother's maiden name?
IW: When did you get married?
IW: Have you visited any other country before?
IW: Have you lived in another country for more than a yr?
IW: Asked for medicals, Passport and DS260 confirmation
IW: Is this your first marriage?
IW: She asked for Original copy of marriage certificate and divorce decree.
IW: She asked for copy of Divorce Decree.
IW: Gave my wife the form that talks about domestic violence and help
IW: What is your preferred choice of language for interview?
IW: Please be seated

Waited for 15-20 mins and again her token number was called to another interview counter where the CO
was an american male in his mid 30's.

CO: Hi, Good morning
Wife: Very Good morning
CO: I am going to be your CO who will conduct yout I/V today, I want to put up your right hand and read through the oath.
Wife: Read it.
CO: Please place your right hand and left hand for Finger print.
CO: Who is calling you
CO: where does he live?
CO: Does he live alone or does he share with some one else?
CO: What does he do for a living?
CO: How do you guys know each other?
CO: How did he propose to you?
CO: When did he propose to you?
CO: Where did he propose to you? what is the name of the restaurant?
CO: When did you get married?
CO: Is this your first marriage?
CO: Is this your husband's first marriage?
CO: Where does your ex- husband live right now?
CO: Do you know what happened to your husband's previous marriage?
CO: Have you ever applied for a US VISA?
CO: Have you visited the U.S?
CO: You have gone to China, Why didn't you visit the U.S? (wife visited Taipei for work for about
3 weeks couple of yrs back) He was also surprised that wife did not visit U.S.
CO: When did you last meet your husband. For this question CO was impress

Also, when you say case completed by Phone, did you call them one day and they said the case is complete? Please advice. Thanks.

Hey Vijay,
Congrats on successful case completion! We completed sending the documents (support and DS-260) to NVC. I was just looking at your timeline. Is this a standard time before NVC can get back to you?

I gave it about 20-25 days and called them and that is what they take to review the docs. so give it about 20-30 days from the day NVC received the docs for them to review. If everything is OK with your docs you should get CC.

Hai Vijay, as i told u before i got REF on Aos. We have already sent them what they need ..
But untill now they haven't tell anytjing about DS260 and its supporting documents.its already 26 working days after they recieve all documents. What is it mean? IV documents are fine or it will take more time to respond?
Vijay posted on 3/3/2014 11:33:21 PM
So its 26 days since you responded to the Checklist? or 26 days from the initial submission?
Vijay posted on 3/3/2014 11:34:08 PM
You have to give 20-30days from the time your response (docs) reaches NVC.
A2601 posted on 3/3/2014 11:37:13 PM
26 working days from initial submission.i sent AoS and IV documets on the same day. No response regarding IV
Vijay posted on 3/3/2014 11:40:44 PM
When did you send the response to the checklist and how long has that been?
Vijay posted on 3/3/2014 11:42:24 PM
Remember NVC may or may not review IV separately while AOS is being reviewed. You have to wait 20-30 days again since your response to the checklist to know if anything else is missing or needed.

Hi A2601
even i m sailing in the same boat.I received checklist from NVC regaridng I864EZ and it has been 2 weeks since i have sent them. they r saying 2 wait for another 3-4 weeks. But i was going through travel.state.gov they have written that if u missed sumthing then u can always show it during interview.U will b interviewed in delhi or bombay.keep in touch when ever u get some response gud luck
A2601 posted on 3/4/2014 5:52:47 AM
How can it be possible? With out sending documents will they give case completion? With out case completion will they give an interview date?
Vijay posted on 3/8/2014 9:52:31 AM
NVC does not do it all the time and sometimes i repeat sometimes they allow the applicant to bring the documents to the interview.

For example,
1) I864 original
2) Latest W2
3) Latest PCC.

Its possible and majority of the time they need all the docs first and ask you to get an updated copy for the interview.

Please email me [email protected]. I am not able to follow your comment here. Can you copy paste the latest checklist? Why are there checklists in two names?
A2601 posted on 3/19/2014 1:19:57 PM
Actually my husband started working in USA since may 2013 only.so his tax return was zero in past years.thats why he should have a co-sponsor with him to support me.in first check list they asked to show gross income of the co sponsor.in second checklist they asked to show my husbands gross income and told us to bring it at the interview time.
Vijay posted on 3/19/2014 4:36:19 PM
Again,Can you send me the first and second checklist separately in an email. I can answeer better for things missing.

Vijay - I got a request for original documents for birth certificate and marriage certificate. Although I have multiple copies of marriage certificate, my spouse, the beneficiary has only one birth certificate. In your case, when you submitted the documents, I understand you sent original+copy of birth certificate, however, when you went to the interview did you have additional copy of birth certificate along at the time of interview? Thanks!

Hi Vijay i have 1 question. I have already filed my tax returns for 2013 online. I put as single but i m married as my spouse is not here and if i put married it is asking for social security number of my spouse. so i put single. I have to show tax return of 2013 to CO when my spouse will b going for interview. Does CO ask y i filed single since i m married. Thanks in advnce
sudz0 posted on 4/23/2014 3:45:19 PM
Sukhi you should be filing "Married filing jointly". You need to apply for your wife's ITIN# - see this link - http://www.irs.gov/uac/Form-W-7,-Application-for-IRS-Individual-Taxpayer-Identification-Number

Your wife can go to the local US Consulate to get her passport copy notarized and then you can apply for the ITIN# with that. of course, she has to sign the W-7.
